Anyway, after telling the director that we were interested in adopting the baby there, she asked if we wanted to go to another gov't orphanage around the corner and see what babies they had there. I said no, we didn't have to, but she insisted, so we did. It wasn't far, but the road was rough and Zelalem ended up getting a flat tire! Anyway, that director was scary! Whew! She basically said that they did have babies, but wouldn't let us see any until we had gone through the city office, where they would assign us a child – no choosing. So, we went back to the first one, confirmed that we would like to adopt that baby, then left to go to the city office and turn in our translated papers. The man there said they would review them and to call back in a week. I think that's too long. (Yes, I'm an American) Our driver said we would go by on Monday and I said I was thinking the same thing.) I want to go back for pictures – of course everyone at home is dying to see her! I also want lots of pictures of the orphanage.

We also want to take many of our donations to that orphanage, including our 150 gift bags, the medicine, some clothes and the school kits. Anyway, when we finished with dropping off our papers, we came back to the hotel. After a while, we went to lunch at a little place just up the street. It was good and not too expensive. (And believe me, I was so glad it was good! The hotel food has not been and I am NOT a picky eater!) Then, we were getting the rest of the copies made of our translated documents and a couple of the boys went back to the hotel, where they found H and Z waiting for us. They had come to to find us, looked all over and finally decided to wait and hope we'd show up. Henock did say that he had been to the orphanage where we found the baby many times and that the director was nice and good to work with. He also said it would be easiest to have all the children come from the same place (Kidane), but I just don't think that's going to happen. He then sent us back to Kidane Mehret to talk to Sister Lutgarda, but as I said, she was not there. I felt bad – I didn't know they would be coming. Anyway, tomorrow is a holiday, so we are not planning on going anywhere. It was almost anti-climactic to find the baby today – it took maybe 10 minutes from the time we entered the director's office to the time we were telling her we wanted her and she was saying OK. :) Maybe it will go smoothly from here on out. One can hope, anyway . . .
