10. 2006 will be relegated to the history books and I won’t have to live another minute in this miserable year.
9. We’ll have the chance to go camping as a family. It’s one of my favorite family activities. Seriously. We rent out a couple of “family” camping spots, set up at least 3 tents and have a blast. Dh does dutch oven cooking, we have fun in the quiet (out of cell phone and Internet range), play Frisbee and catch and chase and lay around in the sun. The kids love to stand in the river (melted snow – always cold!) and pretend to catch fish with their hands. (Actually, they would be offended to know I said “pretend” – they are very serious about their endeavors, but I don’t think the fish have much to worry about.)
8. We get to do a garden again. I love gardening and each year, the garden spot gets a little better. (We started with heavy, heavy clay and very alkaline soil). Working in the dirt is very therapeutic! We’ll have peas in the spring by our waterfall, tomatoes, peppers, onions, lettuce, melons and squash galore and will get to plant our brambles this year – raspberries, blackberries, huckleberries, etc.
7. With 40+ layers (chickens) all coming into “full production”, we should be able to not buy eggs at the grocery store anymore. And have plenty to share. And then some. (And no, it’s NOT cheaper – but it’s good for the kids!)
6. My husband will be starting a new tradition with boys of the family and will be taking a week-long backpacking/hiking trip in the mountains. Yup, male bonding at its finest and I am really glad they’ll be doing that. The boys will have a blast and at the same time, dh will draw on all his Scout leader experience and make sure they have some good serious talks and share some deep emotions. Yay for them!
5. I get to blog on adoption and Africa – what could be better than that?!
